My Favorite Piece Of Student Work

In Teach for America

Tomorrow I'm finally done with Teach For America's summer training institute. After a month of teaching kindergartners I've found my absolute favorite piece of student work. It wasn't a hard decision -- it's been a favorite of my teaching collaborative for some time now. It's great because it shows how cute kindergartners' inventive language can be.

The objective for this lesson was to identify the different characteristics of land and water animals. I told the students to circle the characteristics that differentiate land and water animals. Erick took it upon himself to color and spell them as well. By 'feens' and 'weens' Erick means fins and wings. It's even cuter when he excitedly raises his hand and, unable to say words as fast as he can think them, says, "Es que, es que, es que ... he has, he has feeeeeens!!!" Adorable.
